Power Port Fin
New for 2001, O’Brien’s Power Port fin blade marks a new era in custom ski tuning. Traditionally, if we tune a standard fin to our "on side", then the ski blows out on the off side. The Power Port fin solves this problem with a port that flexes open on the onside turn. Thus, making the fin much smaller on the on side turn. The port is closed on the off side turn making the fin much larger allowing much more tip pressure. What this allows is for the skier to tune the fin for maximizing off side turns. Normally, this would make the onside turn very hard to complete. Now the port opens and the onside turn feels great too. It's pretty easy to install a Power Port on any ski. Simply mark your old fin and take it off. Clamp it to the new Power Port. File the Power Port to the same water contact profile as your old fin. Then use your old fin to notch the top of the Power Port to fit your fin block. Or you can do what most people are doing, which was install the Obrien fin block as well. Then install the Power Port to the same setting as your old fin and work from there. Get the "open right" for right foot forward and "open left" for the left foot forward.
The Power Port fin blade has been approved for tournament use the by the IWSF and USA Water Ski.
